The reasons given are actually really valid and am actually happy I decided to pursue an art education; there is sooo much I would have never been exposed to such as a creative vocabulary if I had decided not to pursue art. Good read!

I really like this article! Legitimately! I have actually never looked at both sides of going to Art School/College. She made some quite valid points. I am going to repost it so I can read it!

Great arguments in favor of art school. It would seem that it is not necessary to go to school to be a a professional artist but it makes sense to have a foundation before questioning tradition.

This article makes some great points. I totally agree that art school can be really valuable to an aspiring artist. One thing I'd like to throw out there, kind of building on his comments about community college, is that you don't have to go to art school specifically to get a good foundational education. I chose to go to a liberal arts college for my undergrad work, and I am so glad that I did. I feel that I am more well-rounded because I was exposed to a wider range of subjects than I would have been at an art school. Then again, author of this article is so right about school being a personal choice that needs to be weighed by individual needs.

I thought that was an excellent point about it being a personal choice as well! I have only benefitted from going to art school and have been exposed to so many mediums--things I wouldn't even think of trying otherwise!

For me, one of the biggest benefits of going to art school has been the challenges in different mediums that I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. Also, the range of teaching styles, mastery amongst faculty, and meeting fellow artists has been a super great experience.
