PHILOSOPHY"We have art so that we may not perish by the truth". - Friedrich Nietzsche
There are no objective truths, other than humans will die, and nature can be very chaotic. Life holds the meaning individuals impose on it. Art must be approached in the same manner, no ideology, system of knowledge can create an objective truth. Art must be taught as discovery. Perspectives from all cultures, communities, and individuals are important. The individual must retain his/her identity and experience, no institution or system of power should take the voice, narrative, or analysis the individual can bring to a work of art. Art becomes more powerful when it makes a meaningful connection, less subject to fundamentalist points of view, and leaves a lasting impression on the individual.
