Video reflection
The TedEd category was a popular choice for our face-to-face class meeting. I wanted to avoid choosing that category again, but amongst the 4 categories it had the best collection of art education videos. The other lists did not have high-quality videos that would be relevant for my students. TeacherTube seemed to be more of a collection of teachers showcasing their student work. WatchKnowLearn is a better resource for educators K-12. ASAP Science did not have relevant videos.
The video I chose above was well animated, informed, and short enough to retain attention spans.
I also felt the topic would not only be relevant to things we discuss in class, but hold interest for my college age students. Graffiti Art is a contemporary art form that is quite controversial, only within the last few decades received institutional or high art validation. The video concisely puts Graffiti Art into the context of art history and brings up a lot of questions throughout. Great topics to discuss for art education range from art aesthetics to how art may be sold (art market).
I could see the use of this video in an e-learning setting to facilitate online discussions. For my class, I would use it as a homework assignment where students had to watch, reflect, and respond. Sample of the prompt I'd create is below:
